2002 softail.95 inch Screaming Eagle heads?
2002 fxsti .i got 36,000 on top end. for a month hard starting.cranks over fine but doesnt fire right up like?
like like it used to .i noticed my oil gets dirty looking fast. sorta smell a burnt oil smell when i put it in the garage. maybe some in the baffle of exhaust.doesnt seem to smoke when its running. if it sets for about 10 hours i have this problem. any time shorter i dont. i was kinda thinking oil is leaking down through the heads and getting into the cylinder. i know in cars to fix this you have to have machine shop neral the vavle guides. is this the same for harleys? how much would it cost to fix somthing like this ? if this is the problem. also what else could it be. any ideas. i ride everyday gotta have the bike . thanks
An 02 with 36k miles???.....Have you had the cam chain tensioners checked. The earlier Twin Cams are NOTORIOUS for the BAD chain design eating through the tensioners. This happens anywhere from 20k-40k. GET THEM CHECKED NOW BEFORE THEY DESTORY THE ENGINE!!!!.
If they get too bad, the metal and platic particles WILL wipe out the oil pump, lifters, cams and support plate. Have them upgraded to the new SE hydraulic tensioner and hi-flow oil pump kit.
As for your smkoing, it does sound like valve seals, rings or both. With the age and mileage on the engine and from the description of your problems, it sounds like you need to have the top end redone. This will not be cheap and will take some time, don't count on riding the bike for about a week or two.
Also, being injected, do you have a Harley "download" or a tuner installed on the bike?
