How do I change the muffler pipes on my Harley LowRider?
I have a 2006 Dyna and I found out here that changing my stock pipes to Screamin' Eagles isn't hard. Can someone tell me actually HOW to do this? Thanks!
If youre talking about Screamin' Eagle slip-on mufflers, its not hard at all and you should be done in Less Than an hour.
Where the stock muffler is connected to your exhaust "head pipe", is a clamp. The bolt for th eclamp is turned so that it is on the backside of the pipe. Loosen this bolt and remove the clamp. Do this for both mufflers.
There are also bolts that secure the stock mufflers to the stock mounting bracket, these will have to be removed. Once these bolts are removed, you just need to slide the stock mufflers off of the head pipes. The stock mounting bracket, attached to the frame of your bike must also be removed and replaced with the bracket supplied in your Screamin' Eagle kit. Once this bracket is installed ( leave it a little loose untill you get all of the bolts started in the new mufflers ) slide your new mufflers on with the new clamps and start the bolts to secure them to the bracket. Once all the bolts have been started, tighten your muffler clamps, then the mounting bracket and then tighten the muffler securing bolts.
The muffler kit will come with illustrated instructions so you shouldn't have any problems. You WILL however need to have your bikes EFI remapped ( Stage 1 download ) from the dealer OR, you could do it yourself by adding a Power Commander PC-3 ( http://www.powercommander.com/ ) and downloading the correct MAP into it yourself. A little more expensive than having the dealer do it but, it make up for it with the improved performance and, you only have to buy the Power Commander ONCE. So, every time you change pipes or, any other performance mod, you can change the MAP yourself without having to pay the dealer again.
